Today in 1967

A young guitarist named Boz Scaggs joined The Steve Miller Band

A blues band led by his childhood friend Steve Miller

Steve Miller and Boz Scaggs first teamed up in 1955

in 'The Marksmen'

A bluesy rock band Miller formed while still in junior high school in Dallas

Starting in 1961

when both were enrolled at the University of Wisconsin

they played together in the groups

'The Ardells' and The 'Fabulous Night Train'

In 1967

A year after the Steve Miller Band was launched in San Francisco

Boz Scaggs joined the lineup

Boz arrived too late to perform with the group

at the now-legendary Monterey International Pop Festival

Scaggs was a member when three months later Miller and his band accompanied rock ’n’ roll pioneer Chuck Berry

on his “Live at the Fillmore” album

The Steve Miller Band's debut album

was titled 'Children of the Future'

Scaggs left to launch his solo career in mid-1968

not long after the Steve Miller Band’s second album

'Sailor' was recorded

Like fellow singer and guitarist Steve Miller

Boz Scaggs became a multmillion-selling star in the 1970's
