best known as the lead singer of the new wave band Blondie

was born on this day in 1945


Blondie is an American rock band

founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein


Debbie is sometimes considered the first rapper 

to chart at number one in the United States owing to her work on "Rapture"


Harry’s acting career

spans over 60 film roles

and numerous television appearances


Debbie’s distinctive photogenic features

and two-tone bleached-blonde hair quickly became a punk icon


Debbie's look

was further popularized by the band's early presence

in the music video revolution of the era


Debbie was a regular at Studio 54

Blondie was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone

in June of 1979



was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006

and toured and performed throughout the world during the following years


Blondie has sold 40 million records worldwide 

The band's tenth studio album Ghosts of Download was released in 2014
