The Beach Boys' 'California Girls' 

was released in the US today in 1965

 

California Girls was written by 

Brian Wilson and Mike Love  

and featured on the Beach Boys album

Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)

Brian Wilson conceived the song

during his first acid trip

later arranging and producing

the song's recording

and incorporating an orchestral prelude 

plus contrasting verse-chorus form 

 

California Girls hit Number 3

on the charts in September 1965

 

California Girls

was also the first Beach Boys recording

to include vocals from Bruce Johnston

who had joined the group to substitute

for Brian Wilson on concert tours

 

California Girls is considered

emblematic of the 1960s California Sound

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 

included California Girls as one of

'500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll'

 

This Beach Boys

recording of California Girls was inducted

into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2010

 

Rolling Stone Magazine

ranked it # 72 on its list of the

'500 Greatest Songs of All Time' in 2011

 

California Girls Continues To Rock
