Barry McGuire was on top of the charts in the US 

with "Eve Of Destruction" on September 25th of 1965

McGuire was a former member of The New Christy Minstrels


Eve of Destruction was a protest song 

written by P. F. Sloan in mid-1964

The controversial doom and gloom theme of the record

was enough to have it banned from airplay

by some US radio stations
