made their live debut

when they played at Summit High School, New Jersey

on December 11th of 1965

Admission was $2.50 and the show sold out

The Velvet Underground was paid $75 for the gig

The Velvet Underground’s original lineup: 

John Cale - Lou Reed - Sterling Morrison - Maureen Tucker

The band played together for the first time that night

opening for the garage-rock group, The Myddle Class

There were three songs in their set:

“Heroin,” “There She Goes Again”

and the S&M-inspired “Venus in Furs”
